When people hear the words Space Economy, they often think about rockets, astronauts, and distant planets.

They are looking in the wrong direction.

The real story is happening much closer to Earth.

Every financial transaction, every navigation system, every energy grid, every supply chain, every military operation, and increasingly every AI-driven decision relies on assets orbiting above us.

Space is no longer a frontier.
It is infrastructure.
And like every critical infrastructure, it is becoming a target.

As governments and businesses race to unlock the trillion-dollar opportunities of the Space Economy, a far more urgent question emerges:

Who is protecting the systems that protect our world?

The future of space is not only about exploration.
·       It is about resilience.
·       It is about Cybersecurity.
·       It is about strategic autonomy.
·       It is about trust.

Cyberattacks against space infrastructure are no longer theoretical scenarios discussed in conference rooms.

They are becoming a strategic reality.
A compromised satellite can disrupt communications.

The next generation of Cybersecurity professionals will need to understand not only networks and software, but also orbital assets, satellite communications, AI systems, and geopolitical risk.

This is where a new conversation must begin.

And it must include more women.

The Space Economy and Cybersecurity sectors are simultaneously facing the same challenge: a shortage of diverse talent capable of navigating increasingly complex technological and geopolitical environments.

At Cyber Women Network (CWN), we believe the future of security requires broader perspectives, interdisciplinary expertise, and stronger international collaboration.

The leaders of tomorrow will not work in silos.
They will connect Cybersecurity, sustainability, energy, artificial intelligence, diplomacy, and space technologies into a single strategic vision.

As Italy launches a new dialogue on the future of the Space Economy, the opportunity extends far beyond industrial growth.
It is a chance to rethink how we secure the digital and orbital ecosystems that underpin modern civilization.

The next Cyber battlefield is already above our heads.
The question is not whether we are prepared.

The question is whether we are preparing enough people  especially women to lead it.
