In its May 2026 The Economist warned:
Advanced AI could enable bioterrorists to design pathogens, launch Cyberattacks and place catastrophic capabilities in the hands of a single actor. Another article described a new “cold-war-style dilemma” between the leading AI powers. The race to AI leadership will shape not only economic power, but the safety of the world itself.
Cybersecurity is no longer about purely protecting data.
From CWN’s perspective it is about protecting DNA, research laboratories, genomic databases, pharmaceutical supply chains and public health systems. The convergence of AI, biotechnology and Cyber capabilities demands urgent action.
Three mandatory steps to prevent AI-enabled bioterrorism:
1. Protect critical infrastructure — Secure laboratories, genomic databases, cloud platforms and pharmaceutical supply chains
2. Detect threats early — Use AI-driven Cyber monitoring to identify suspicious activity before biological designs become real-world weapons
3. Build global guardrails — Establish international standards for AI safety, biosecurity and responsible research
The 21st century’s most important security challenge is not only nuclear deterrence. It is ensuring that artificial intelligence serves humanity – rather than empowering those who would weaponize biology.
CYBERSECURITY is the Shield.
GOVERNANCE is the Safeguard.
VIGILANCE is the price of Survival.
